Other people hate it when a link opens in a new window. Your site visitors can choose whether to open a link in the same window, another window or another tab via their web browser. Please do not force your preferences on them. It causes a lot more than a little annoyance for many potential visitors and can make them avoid your site.
That’s a good point, however, i’ve also seen the opposite too. For instance, I deal with people who are not computer savvy in any way, and having an external link open in a new window, prevents the visitor from having to click the back button 18 times, to get back to my blog. I’ve noticed though, from my experience both IE and Firefox will actually open up a new tab, instead of an entire window (which I think is much better alternative).
