i have looked into this further and it would seem it is related to a similar problem that has already been discussed relating to poor coding of the WPURL.

i have ftp’d to the plugins location on my server and ive downloaded the error_log file. it is reporting lots of errors, mostly relating to :

[29-Jun-2010 06:20:06] PHP Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by…….

I have tried changing the code in wordsprew.php & wordsprew_admi.php but so far no luck 🙁

I have just installed the plugin on a fresh install of WP3 (see link above) and still get the warning after it is installed:

“The plugin generated 976 characters of unexpected output during activation. If you notice “headers already sent” messages, problems with syndication feeds or other issues, try deactivating or removing this plugin.”

I have added the widget to my sidebar and if i try to post a shout it does nothing.

Also IE reports errors on page. click bottom left warnings to see these:

I have also checked the erro_log file again and it has numerous repeated errors:

    /home/dodge/public_html/site1/wp-content/plugins/pierres-wordspew/wordspew.php on line 178

any help, I would like to use this plugin.

    hi piere,

i have also just installed WP2.9.2 at:

    http://davidrodgers.me/site2/

    and your plugin works fine.

I noticed that I dont get any errors after installing the plugin. I also noticed that in the admin section of your plugin all the default values are there. When I install it on WP3 all the boxes are blank.

It is definately relating to changes in WP3.

hope that helps you improve your plugin and really make it WP3 compatible, because clearly it isnt at the moment.

    ok tedrodgers,

try to deactivate the plugin then check the checkbox and activate it by cliking on the button on the top of the page or the one at the bottom. Don’t click on the link “Activate”.

I think that the values will, then, be correctly filled.

    Keep me inform.

    Amicably,

    Pierre.

    this seems to have worked.

I totally removed the plugin files. re-downloaded them and activated it by ticking the box and choosing actviate from the drop down menu, rather than just clicking the activate link.

this seems to have installed the shoutbox properly now.

can you tell me why this works, it makes no sense to me why that way of activating it would fix the issue.

I will try it on my main site and let you know.

    thanks

Sorry to dick this topic up, but have the same problem as above,
    WP 3.0.1 .
Activated the plugin in any possible way.
Problem occured after i migrated from a home server to a webserver, also it seem if i remove the plugin folder it has the same boxes and refresh times as i checked them in the earlier install.
SO where das the plugin stor it’s values?
Ofcourse my MySql DB name changed, so might this be the Problem?
I really don’t want to reinstall WP because the Website is running great and I just want this neat little plugin (love it) back online!!
    Thanks for your help

Me too getting this error. Only when I enable users online. Please help us :/

Don’t know if it helps, but in my case deleting and reinstalling and activating over the checkbox didn’t work.

But I solved my problem. so what helped:

first I deleted the plugin-folder, good for now but after reinstalling I relized that the option checkboxes where the same and didn’t go back to the default ones. So I looked into the database and found 4 values in the wp-options table, 3 are named with “shoutbox_” in the front and one was named something like widget-wordspew (but i can’t find it now in my DB)
I deleted all these values from the table and reinstalled the plugin, activating it over the checkbox.
This way I got a fresh install without reinstallin WP and it worked again

    hope this helps

    THANK YOU. WORKS NOW.
