Support » Fixing WordPress » newbie with boilerplate short code?

  • hi, i’ve installed the ‘add attributions’ plugin (to hot or not theme at babblicious.ca)

i get the concept of a short code and how it’s already been added to the script via this plugin and all i need to do is insert the shortcode right?! …but, nothing changes in the post?

i need basic, 101, how to, step by step tutorial on how to do short code. if i use the short code…

[source] it apparently will link to the source i syndicated the post from so do i add this in the box?
    [source=http://ontarioscottagecountry.blogspot.com”]

i read somewhere i need to <close></close> it?

thank reading, i hope that makes some sense and thanks a tonne in advance!

  • Can you provide a link to the plugin site? I couldn’t find it with google, so I can’t get any info on how to use it.

    hi,

here is the plugin addy http://feedwordpress.radgeek.com/

    from there i also downloaded this add-on > http://projects.radgeek.com/add-attribution-feedwordpress/

they work together but i just can’t grasp what to do next…thank you!

WOW – great lack of documentation without actually installing the plugins!

I am somewhat guessing here, but based on how standard shortcodes work, for your example you would use:

    [source]http://ontarioscottagecountry.blogspot.com”[/source]

i took a snip of the screen and saved it, if this helps…

and i will try what you suggested, with quotes right? and let you know… 🙂

My bad – no quotes. And I think what you put inside the shortcodes will be made into a link, so you might try just descriptive text. Give this a try also:

    [source]Where I got this article[/source]

hmmm, nothing seems to stick and when i do add something in the boiler template it disappears and there is no sign of it anywhere? i’m just too new to tackle this mountain 😉 …thanks for your help,

i’ll keep poking around maybe i need to find a different feed plugin or a user of fwp. cheers!

After looking at the plugin site some more, I think the shortcodes might just stand alone. What I mean is, you only need to put in the shortcode itself for most of them. So, just putting in [source] should return a link to the source of the article (I think!).

I found one example in the comments that shows how to insert a link to the original source:

    <p>From <a href="[original-url]" rel="nofollow">[original-url]</a></p>

    Or, if you prefer:

    <p>From <a href="[original-url]" rel="nofollow">Read the Original Article</a></p>
