Exactly what you do depends on your theme. If it is a freely available theme, post a link to your site so we can see the code.

You can remove the date easily, but reusing the space is more complicated.
Remove the date by deleting the ‘background: … ‘ line under .post at line 140 of style.css.
Remove the day by adding ‘display: none;’ under #left-con . date at line 151 of style.css.
Of course! Editing the CSS!
I could not find what you are referring to but found a way around this by setting the class of the link to ‘display: none;’

It works for me. And I think this plugin works on all of the themes. Maybe you can try it out.
