WP 3 has a new way of getting the api key (if you don’t already have one, and I wonder if it causes this situation:

I just started a new test blog today with WP 3. I put in the api key from my wordpress.com blog. My other blogs are listed in the Global Dashboard “My Blogs” area, but not the new one. Previously, the blogs showed up when I put in the key.

How do I get my new WP 3 test blog to show in the WordPress.com Global Dashboard?

(For what it’s worth, I needed a test blog to figure out how to make a child theme so I can upgrade the themes for my other blogs to use WP 3 without losing my customization…..)

I hope somebody can help me with this. Having my other two WordPress.org blogs showing in my WordPress.com Global Dashboard is very handy! It takes longer to get to my test blog because it is not linked to the Global Dashboard.

    Thank you!

Self hosted blogs will never show up on the WordPress.COM dashboard. Completely different systems.

If all you want to do is figure out how to update the look and feel of your WordPress.COM blogs, just open a new development test blog, set it to “Private” or turn off the search engines if you don’t want others to see what you are doing. Do the changes to the test site and then change your regular sites.

    Saildude,

My two wordpress.org blogs actually do show in my WordPress.com Global Dashboard. Here is a screencap:

I don’t know how they got there, but they are there. (the full url of the second one does not show in the image, only in rollover. It is in a folder of the main domain.) It is very handy, and I want to add my new test blog there, too.

I just upgraded the two blogs listed at the bottom of the image to WP3 the other day. They are not WordPress.com blogs, I promise.

They definitely do. All 6 of mine are on there. They show up when you link akismet (or whatever)

I believe the OP is setting up a .org test site, and his .org site is not appearing on the .com website

As for the issue at hand, I have no idea what’s up with that. All mine are on there, all are 3.0, but all were set up previously

    RVoodoo,

Thank you for seconding my statement that the self hosted blogs do show.I also understand they show because of plugging in the API key to use the Akismet.

My test blog was downloaded from WordPress.org. But my site is not .org. It is in a folder of my main dot com domain:

    http://x-evolutionist.com/just-a-test-blog/

But, another blog that is also in a folder in that domain does show:

    http://x-evolutionist.com/life-in-our-backyard/

Just, as I said above, the whole path does not show, except when I roll over it.

I guess I stand corrected – I do have Akismet enabled on my .org sites and have never seen them on my .com dashboard. I don’t remember seeing anything on setting it up –

    interesting

    Saildude,

I was mystified when they showed up, but somebody someplace wrote that it is associated with the api key somehow. Personally, I’m not an authority…..

I just noticed that actually, one of my blogs is on there twice, and one is missing, so I dunno!

I just looked at my Global Dashboard – there is an “Add Site” option but if I read things correctly it is WordPress.com hosted only – there was a bit about Domain Mapping but that did not look hopeful ( they do allow name registration, maybe related to that )

    I guess the mystery continues.

    RVoodoo,

One of mine appears to be listed twice, too. But, it is actually my other blog. One blog is in a folder of my main domain. When I hover over the second appearance of the one blog, it is actually my second blog. I’m just mentioning this in case yours is the same way.

    Saildude,

Yes, as I understand it the “add blog” and “domain mapping” are both about wordpress.COM.

This thing is, WordPress.org version 3, that I just downloaded and made a test blog, has a new way of getting API keys. Since I already have an API key, I went ahead and used it. But, now you can buy them or get one free with a non-commercial blog.

My question to everybody who is reading this is rather the new way the API key is handled is related to my new test blog not showing with my other two WP.org blogs.

Perhaps the mystery will contunue as Saildude says….

    Dear Helpful people,

I’m still hoping somebody knows how to get my WordPress.org blog listed in my WordPress.com Global Dashboard. Having two of them listed there is so handy, that I want to know how to get my test blog listed there, too.

    Thank you!

All of my blogs, in WordPress.com AND self hosted, are listed on this page except my new test blog that I started in WP3. There is a new system to set up Akismet and a new way to get an API key. I’m wondering if that is the problem, and if so how I can work around it.

It is so convenient having all my blogs accessible in one place — except my new test blog.

    Bummer.

    Can anybody help me?

    Thank you!

I’ve been looking for the answer to something similar to what your asking X.

First, I think your self-hosted .org website is on your .com dashboard because of domain mapping. Unless it has something to do with WP3.0, i don’t think they just show up.

On a related note, i know self-hosted blogs CAN and DO show up in the global tags at WP.com http://wordpress.com/#tags

Anyone out there know how to make this happen. I have my blog on a subdomain and haven’t been able to find out from my hosting service, a plugin-in, or these forums on how to do this. I know it can be done because I’ve seen it.
This blog is a for instance. http://gigaom.com

Click on a post at that site and go to the bottom where their tags are. You’ll see at the very bottom of your browser in the status bar that it is showing tags for said category at gigaom. But if you type in the tag at http://wordpress.com/#tags [ another for instance. http://en.wordpress.com/tag/Devicescape/ ]you’ll see the link points to their website.
How does this work? How can I make this happen on my site?
