newbie installation review article

    I installed wordpress yesterday as part of my job as a media intern for a video production company. (Dr. Campos thinks a blog from a newbie’s perspective might help improve our website’s visibility.)

    So, I’m blogging about what I’m doing, which is currently,um, blogging about blogging.

    I wrote an article about my wordpress installation (I had probs with FTP and customization) and suggestions on how to improve it. (One long php file if “batch uploaId” via ftp doesn’t work, and a simpler to edit theme.)

    So if you have time, read the article and tell me what you think. (You could even be the first real comment in my blog 😛

    Eventually, I’ll make an official announcement in a different forum when I think my blog is ready for public display:)

    You kind of missed the point of themes.
    You should not edit core files IE the index.php.
    Your just asking for trouble the next time you upgrade.

    All of the files you have to edit are in the
    wp-content/themes/name of the theam
    and you can edit all of the pages in the
    admin section appearance/editor

    Thanks, if I have problems upgrading, I will remember to go to a “default” theme first?

    I’ll keep playing with the admin appearance/editor bit. I found it was hard to get the control I wanted. (ie exact positioning and incorporating it to match the rest of the non-wordpress site)

    I did some google searching for tutorials, but couldn’t find what I was looking for. (I couldn’t quite understand codex either 🙁
