Stuck in Maintenance Mode

    My blog went into automatic Maintenance Mode when I initiated upgrading two plugins.

    Problem is, server returned a 500 error (which it does sometimes, the crappy thing. All it takes is a reload and it works), but now the Maintenance Mode is stuck!

    How do I disable the automatic Maintenance Mode?

    Nevermind, I found out that deleting the .maintenance file found in the WordPress root/base folder disables Maintenance Mode.

    The .maintenance file is only valid for 10 minutes from its creation time.

    In the event that WordPress encounters a fatal error or doesnt cleanup after itself after a bulk upgrade/core upgrade action, the blog will be locked into the maintenance mode until <start time>+10mins.

    As you found out, you can delete the .maintenance file before then to recover.

    I just panicked on a failed plugin upgrade attempt. I deleted the .maintenance file as svedman suggested and relaxed, but it is good to know there is a time limit on maintenance mode.
