• I took a break from building my new site to read many of the various WP help pages, but didn’t find an answer to one of my questions.

How do I know which files are necessary on my server? My server feels very cluttered right now, and I would like to clean it up.

Although I thought everything WP was supposed to go in the WordPress folder, I somehow ended up with a whole bunch of folders and pages that are outside the WordPress folder, in my main directory. Like dbboon and edit-comments.php, for example.

It’s possible these files are left over from my first accidental install of WP in my main directory, but I thought I deleted them all and reinstalled it in its own folder.

Can I delete everything that’s outside the WordPress folder?

Uh … I’m not entirely sure I understand the question, but … I don’t think so.

My current/old site at http://www.patiastephens.com is built in Dreamweaver with Blogger code integrated into the index page. Since Blogger discontinued FTP support, I am rebuilding my site in WordPress at http://www.patiastephens.com/wordpress. Once it’s finished, I plan to replace the current/old site with the new WP site.

The instructions you provided me in another thread will help me do that, but in the meantime, I’d love to delete any unnecessary files from my main directory. Should there be any WP files in my main directory (besides the WordPress folder) at this point?

    No – there shouldn’t.

OK, thanks. I shall delete with abandon. 🙂
