Image not showing in Draft

    Just logged into client’s blog for first time in a couple weeks. Client added JPG image to draft of new post, but it only shows in edit area as a grey box (w/ caption). I tried from my home office and got same result. Previewing the post shows just a black outline around small white box where the image should be. (Includes text from alt tag and caption.)

    Any ideas? (We’ve been able to add images successfully before, no problem.)

    F.y.i., we are using v.2.9.2 of WP and the Organic theme from The Forge Web Creations. (I’ll solicit their advice, as well.)

    Try checking the uploads path in Settings/Miscellaneous.

    The two boxes for URL paths are (still) blank. I tried typing in the default folder (“wp-content/uploads”), but it had no effect.

    Any other ideas?

    Have you tried re-saving the image in a graphics application?

    Only one I have is Paint Shop Pro. I pulled it into there, renamed it and gave it a JPEG extension. Results were the same.

    I tested uploading images (this one and another) on my own website (using same version of WP) and my personal blog on wordpress.com. Had no problems in either case. This suggests that the problem either has to do with the theme — and I have an email request in to the creators, tho not holding my breath — or with the client’s site or server (and they are self-hosting). I’ll see if their IT guy has any ideas.

    Meanwhile, any other ideas are welcome.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

    – increasing the available memory?

    The only plug-in being used is Akismet. I updated it, but the problem remains.

    Can’t imagine why available memory would be used up, especially since there are only 4 short posts.

    I’ll consider your other suggestions tomorrow, after the client’s IT guy gets back to me.

    @cpfchris – Did you take my advice and check with the host?

    @esmi – I’m convinced it’s a host problem, we dealt with this exact scenario on our website with Chris.

    Yes, as I posted on The Forge’s site, it was a permissions issue with the c:\windows\temp folder on the server. We’re not sure about the inconsistency, or why it happened in the first place. But, we think the permissions might have gotten changed during a Windows upgrade.

    In any case, the client’s IT guy found and fixed it, so we’re good.
