404 on index page after upgrading (2 posts)

I'm hosted on Yahoo, so no access to my .htaccess.

What I noticed after upgrading is that I can no longer get the blog to show up at the root domain highbridgecompany.com. It only shows up if I use highbridgecompany.com/blog.

What is additionally odd is that it WILL show up for a second or two before going to the 404 error. And it's not a caching issue that it is showing up, as I had added a new post--and could see it briefly before the 404 error came up. That "glimpse" of the correct page happens every time I refresh.

Changing the "site URL" in the "general" admin page to the root domain just makes blog not show up at all--not even using the "/blog" address.

Is it the .htaccess file--and if so what can I do since I can't see it (I'm set to show hidden files) and Yahoo blocks you from loading an .htaccess anyway? Can permalinks cause an issue with the index/root?
I just don't understand how an up-to-date- index page can be appearing briefly--and then disappearing behind a 404 error page.

UPDATE: Now I'm getting a completely scrambled design (although up-to-date contents on the root domain--but I can no longer log in there, nor can I get into the admin from Yahoo. That's all "404" and the url comes up with a re-direct of:

    http://highbridgecompany.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fhighbridgecompany.com%2Fblog%2Fwp-admin%2Foptions-general.php%3Fupdated%3Dtrue&reauth=1

    At a complete loss.
