[resolved] 404 message displayed differently in child theme (7 posts)

Ive edited my 404 message in my themes 404.php file, and it is displaying correctly on my site (http://wordsandmusic.me), in hebrew, the language I am using.

However, when I copied that same file into my child themes folder, the hebrew text is displayed as question marks on a black icon, as you can see here: http://wordsandmusic.me/bla

    Why is this happening?

What did you use to create the 404.php template file?

Thanks for the hint. Copied it in a different way and things now look as they should.

Is using notepad++ generally a bad idea?

Check what encoding is being used when the file is saved. It should be ANSII - not UTF-8 or Unicode.

No. I know a couple of theme developers use it. You just have to make sure that it's saving .php files in the right format.
