This shouldn’t be so frustrating (I know…breath). I’ve installed Subscribe2 at http://www.brucesmithwildlife.com/?page_id=1628. The widget is at the bottom right of the page. When I enter an email address to the subscription, I’m dumped to a 404 page error. In Settings->Appearance, I’ve tried setting the page to Blog&News->Bruce’sBlog (which is where the widget needs to be) and I’ve tried setting it to a blank page at Contact->Subscriptions. In both cases, I get the 404 page error with the Subscribe button is clicked.

I don’t need a subscription form. Just a widget where visitors can subscribe, or unsubscribe and information in the administrative area to show the email addresses of the subscribers.

BTW, the confirmation emails came through fine.

    Thank you for your advice,
    Deb

  • @deb,

The widget is set to redirect to this page on submission:
    http://www.brucesmithwildlife.com/?page_id=1631

    Only that page doesn’t exist.

You need to visit the WordPress Widgets page and open up the Setting on the Subscribe2 Widget and then set the landing page from there. If you don’t want to redirect at all then select the option that says “Use Referring Page” in the drop down where it says “Post form content to page”.

Thank you mattyrob. I couldn’t figure out why the widget was setting the redirect to that page id. Regardless of where I designated the widget to redirect, it would use that page id.

I think there was a problem with the widget being on multiple pages. NO idea how I pulled that off but the widget was on the home page, the contact page, yadayada. I pulled the widget off those pages, tried “referring page” again with the widget on the blog page and IT WORKS!!

I appreciate your advice – it gave me a new perspective on the problem. (And some distance from the issue can help too :-))
