404 Error on WP login page - Network Solutions wants to charge me (13 posts)

    Here's my problem:

I can't login to my WP blog:

    http://bgordonconsulting.com/wordpress1/wp-admin/index.php

    I get a 404 each time.

My host is Network Solutions. I spoke with hosting and they tell me that this is a coding problem and I have to work through their "MyTime Support" department and pay $59.99 in order to figure out what happened to my blog and why I keep getting a 404 and can't login.

I've had this blog for two months. I've done nothing to it but download a few plugins, install a graphic, and upload theme.

I've yet to post ANYTHING as far as content goes. And now I'm told I have to $59.99 to get my blog fixed.

What's up? What is going on? Why is there a coding problem? Is this a problem that I created? Or is this a problem that has to do with WP being hacked in some way?

I"d love to some feedback on my particular situation. Thanks.

Is this related to the tag cloud plugin?

Have you removed that plugin ? Try using FTP to rename the plugins folder to "pluginsHOLD"

I don't recall downloading a plugin tag cloud but I can look at renaming the plugins folder, I suppose.

Do you have FTP access to your blog, and a local version with all the files?

So I can definitely say this has nothing to do with the tag cloud plugin because I did not download it. If I rename the plugs folder to "pluginsHOLD" is that going to invalidate the existing plugins themselves? Or what does that actually do?

Renaming the plugins folder doesn't invalidate the plugins, it effectively hides them from WordPress.

WordPress interprets this as no plugins folder existing. I don't know if that will cause an error though, never tried it.

So far, I'm deleting plugin after plugin after plugin. And I'm not getting any resolution to the 404 problem.

When you say rename the plugins folder, are you asking me to just plain delete it and every plugin I've already installed and then re-upload a new folder called "pluginsHOLD" and that might solve the problem?

Sorry for the additional clarification here.

You'd need to rename the existing plugins folder to "pluginsHOLD".

But per govpatel's post above - does this not work?

Is bit odd on how wordpress is installed on Network Solutions as I find out that you can login using

    http://bgordonconsulting.com/wordpress1/login and gets redirected.

Yes, I don't understand why it is redirecting. Thank you for at least helping me get to the login page.
