    Hi,

    I'm new to WordPress and I'm just trying to install it with the "famous 5 minutes installation" for the first time.

    Note! I have searched the forum to find an answer to my problem, unfortunately without success. Hence, this thread.

    I FTPed the extracted WP files to my domain and a subdirectory: http://www.anderssonz.se/wp/ and then I tried to install by accessing http://www.anderssonz.se/wp/wp-admin/install.php, but I just get:

    Forbidden
    You don't have permission to access /wp/wp-admin/install.php on this server.
    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    I've changed the permissions of the file to 777, so there shouldn't be a permission problem.

    Any ideas what the problem might be?

    Thanks, but it's not exactly what I want:

    "WordPress allows you to install the WordPress files to a subdirectory, but have your blog exist in the site root."

    In principal, what I want to do is to try WordPress out in a separate directory. Anyway, your post gave me the idea that it might be the permissions of the folder that must be altered. So I changed the permissions of the folder (wp-admin) as well to 777.

    Now the result is:

    ==============================================================
    Internal Server Error

    The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

    Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@anderssonz.se and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

    More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
