changing permalinks

    Attempting to change/correct my permalinks. Change in the settings- permalink page. and saved changes and refreshed page. But the changes are NOT showing up on the website.
    Notice said to change .htacess permissions and I did so on my ftp server. Still no change. My permalinks are really messed up and I don’t know what else to do.

    Set the links back to the default settings and save. Then try setting a custom permalink structure back up again. You need to set the permissions on your .htaccess file before you set up pretty permalinks.

    How do I set up the permissions on my .htacess file? I am a non- techie and totally groping my way thru this.
