Support » Fixing WordPress » New post and comment notification

  • I am running WordPress 2.9.2 with the default theme. I want to an email sent to me (admin) whenever a new post or comment has been added. I do have the option “E-mail me whenever anyone posts a comment” checked in the Discussion section of the Dashboard.

I looked through the plugins available but didn’t find anything that would do the above. Any ideas how to get an email sent to admin whenever a new post or comment is added to the blog?

    Thanks.

  • No idea, Alauck. One would think selecting the ‘send me a notice’ under the discussion page would ‘send you a notice’… I can’t seem to get it either. I guess we keep searching. Adding plug-ins to compensate for a buggy build sounds like the wrong way to do things. There’s gotta be something in the code that can be flipped, uncommented, etc to get it to act as expected “out of the box”.

Email notifications have worked for me ever since WP 2.0 right through to 2.9.2 (can’t recall if I’ve had any comments on the 3.0 installs yet).

Does your host support the PHP mail() function (not all hosts do)? Have you checked your email account settings. Have you tried deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
