Hi, I guess the title says it all, but to give a bit of background:

A friend and I share a site which we created and are currently modifying in our host’s WYSIWYG html editor (pitiful, I know). He installed WordPress a long time ago and played with it for a little bit but lost steam. Then I decided to give it a try, but ran into a problem that, according to Google, seemed to warrant reinstallation. (I don’t remember the problems anymore; this was a while ago. I got so discouraged that it’s taken some time to dare to try again.)

Sooo, I deleted the wordpress folder on the site FTP, but there remains an .htaccess file in the root which I’m wondering whether I should also delete. It was last modified on the date that my friend installed WordPress.

So, does it make sense to delete it before reinstalling WordPress?

Thanks so much in advance for your reply!

    Yours,
    Tanja

Edit: Oh, I remember the problem! I got Internal Server Error 500 on some (but not all) of my pages.

Update: I had the bright idea to backup the .htaccess file and then delete it. Then I uploaded the unzipped WordPress folder with the customized wp_config file again.

However, when I go to http://mysite.com/wp-admin/install.php, it says: “You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.”

Which database tables would these be?
