• Ok, maybe this is a stupid question, but I have no idea what I’m doing and none of the help sections are helping me. I installed wordpress, I’m in the panel to edit things, and all I want to know is, how do you get to the actual page on your website with the actual blog? Do I have to make a new page? Because every time I click on anything it takes me to my websites homepage. Is there a html page or file that I have to put somewhere?

  • Go back into control panel wp-admin and look in the left side bar for “Settings” then go to “General” you should be here /wp-admin/options-general.php then specify the correct URL of wordpress

I tried that, I don’t know what the correct URL of wordpress is. All it had originally was the index page for my website. Do I need to create a new page to put on the server and then link to that URL?

No you shouldnt have to create a new page
What should be the URL of your blog?

I have no idea. I tried changing the section that said wordpress url and now I can’t even get into the wp-admin section at all now, it just gives me an error page. I have to be honest, I just started this and I really don’t know at all what I’m doing. I did everything the installation and startup instructions said, and now I have no clue what to do because it’s not working.

Was the install to be a stand alone site or was it installed as an extension i.e. http://www.mysite.com/blog ?

I’m not sure. I thought I installed it to be an extension. I installed it with Fantastico because I was having issues installing it every other way.

More than likely you do not have access to SecureShell
If you have a site already and are wanting to add a blog you will need to tell fantastico to install in subfolder rather than root. Or create a subdomain for the blog (blogname.sitename.com) this would automatically create a subfolder in your public_html to /blogname

After the install you would access admin at blogname.sitename.com/wp-admin

You should be able to return to Fantastico and click wordpress and it should show you the location. You also have the option from there to uninstall and start over.
