Customizing Profile/Options for Users

Is there an easy way to make the profile page (Dashboard Page when they sign in) look more lively, or give the opportunity to customize it.. My registration is set for people to sign up with subscriber privileges, but when they become a member I can’t figure out how to make the page they use more visually appealing.. Pretty much to give them ways to make their profile look nice, pic if they want, etc.. when you go into myspace or facebook it’s set up and a professional manner, and i want to set mine up in nice way..
