You could probably list more details, like the error messages you get when you try to post by email etc, to get better help.
It helps the guys over here to know every detail they could, without compromising your security, of course.

Ok I have installed wordpress from cvs on 5-4-04 and specified the mail server and the email id and password.
I am a bit confused how to do it can you please explain how to blog by mail.
Right now I am sending mail to the mail id I have specified in the blog by email option, shouldnt it read the mail and post it?

The mail is waiting to be collected by the wp-mail.php script.
When you visit http://yourblogsite.net/wp-mail.php the mail will be collected and posted into your blog.
This can be done automaticly by a cron job ( read: scheduled task running the wp-mail.php )
It wont run by itself, you have to trigger it one way or the other.
