    Hi,
Im trying to protect the admin folder, but whe I place the htaccess in the admin folder and try to access http://www.THESITE.com/wp-admin it show me a “page not found” title on the website and “Sorry, no posts matched your criteria.” on the content area.
How should I proceed to make it work?

    Thanks

The only thing that .htaccess password protection will do to that directory is prevent visitors without a password from accessing the admin area, which is exactly what WordPress’s user/login system does. It’s really unnecessary and could cause problems with core functionality and certain plugins.
