I would like to move my uploads folder to a location outside the wordpress directory, and has it’s own unique log on. can this be done?

My problem is that the free hosting server is regularly “looses” all files a lot. So I tack the database onto another host server, but not sure how to do the uploads folder.. as I don’t see anywhere where you enter the log on info.

Figured this way all i have to worry about is re-uploading the core wordpress files.

    Any ideas?

Well tat was possibly easier than I had thought. No where to put the log on info for the uploads directory.. just put it into the Full URL path to files field that is in the Dashboard / Settings / Misc.

Change the full path to read as follows:
    ftp://user:password@ftpserver/url-path

Now my website is at one address, while the database and the uploads files are in safer location than the free webhosts.

Now i wonder how many other folders could be moved?? Anyone know of more hacks like this?

Just out of interest, how’s this working out for you?

I’m thinking of doing something similar on a Multisite project where I’d get another, cheaper, spacious server to host all uploads while the rest of the site, inc. database, is hosted on another, pricy, small and fast server.

    Thanks,

    k
