I am trying to install WP 2.9.2 locally on my laptop to learn how to use it. I run Win7 with IIS 7. I have correctly installed the latest version of PHP and MySQL. I have tested PHP and it works. I have tested MySQL and it works. I have created a database called ‘blog’ for now. I followed the directions for creating the database from this site using the MySQL client. Everything for WP is in a folder called blog in another folder called foxdenwebsolutions in my wwwroot folder in Inetpub. At first I tried to edit the wp-config.php file myself using the information I used to create the database and getting keys from api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1. I made sure that everything was entered correctly. I then tried to install and got the database connection error. I deleted the wp-config.php file and tried having WP set it up. I got to the setup-config.php in my browser and entered all the same information. Still I get the database connection error. This is driving me nuts. Please help me get this working. I will not install Apache because my hosting is under Windows and I will not change that.

NM I figured it out. I downloaded a GUI for MySQL and checked the database. It showed a host of 127.0.0…… I replaced localhost with this and it connected just fine. Don’t ask me why but it now works and I can learn WP.
