I just finished uploading the latest version of WP 2.9.2 and got this error:

You cannot upgrade because WordPress 2.9.2 requires MySQL version 4.1.2 or higher. You are running version 4.0.26.

How far back do I have to go to get a version that will work with my version of MySQL? It looks like the database may have been messed up also. Crap.

    Thanks all!

    Hendrik

If you got the “You cannot upgrade” message then I think that means that nothing should have been changed in your database, so you should be able to rever to the older version by replacing the files with the previous ones from the release archive.

I rolled back to my archived files and now I can’t get into the admin page at all. I think that the database was updated anyway, even though it said that I couldn’t use the current version of the database.

Unfortunately I don’t have direct access to MySql with my hosting company so I can verify what has happened.

I have a support request in to them to restore my database backup, but who knows what’s going to happen.

    Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately I have just had the exact same problem. I ran the WordPress automatic update and after the program re-activated the plug-ins was when the message error message was received.

I am now also locked out of the Admin page. I get the below error message upon entering my log-in info.

You cannot upgrade because WordPress 2.9.2 requires MySQL version 4.1.2 or higher. You are running version 4.0.27.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I am now off to contact our web host to see if we can upgrade our MySQL…

Perhaps the next version of the Automatic Updater should run a check on the status on the compatibility of the MySQL database prior to allowing the files to be upgraded.

Just upgraded to WP 2.9.2 and I’m getting this message: “You cannot upgrade because WordPress 2.9.2 requires MySQL version 4.1.2 or higher. You are running version 4.0.20.”

What happened? And how do I fix it?

    Thanks.

You’ll have to ask your hosting provider to install MySQL 4.1.2 or higher.

Can you contact your hosting provider and confirm that they have PHP version 4.3 or greater and MySQL version 4.1.2 or greater?
