How Can I Test A Massive WordPress Site?

I’m considering using WordPress for a large site (this site might get up to a million hits a day with 170k page views). I don’t want to build this site and turn out that I have problems (either WordPress or my server able to handle it).

Any suggestions as to how to effectively test a WordPress blog for responsiveness instead of just guessing?

Automated clicking tools, maybe? You’re going to need a big server for that anyway, and probably more than one, but you probably know this already.

Well, there are a couple of ways (BTW, this site itself has been on the receiving end of a couple of /.’s and it did okay)

One thought is to set up a test blog, then get either a server or a few zombie computers to simulate a massive storm of users.

No… If you read my request, you’ll see that I want to test something AFTER building such a site. “Can WordPress Handle This” and “How Do I Test a WordPress Site” are similar, but not the same questions.

Maybe I wasn’t clear enough. “error” above was closer to my request.
