Moving wordpress database to new server

    Does a database has to be edited when moving it to another server? I heard that sometimes a database contains the url of that server on which it is running. And when moving a database to another server/new provider, that url has to be changed? Thanks for any info!

    the url would only change if the domain name changed

    Thanks Samboll. Just this info seems missing at this url above, does a wordpress database contain the url of that server where it is running, and, in case one moves this same databse to another server, that this database doesn’t work there unless one changes within the database the old server url into the new server url? Or is a wordpress database immediately changable to another server?

    WordPress does somewhat bind to a URL.

    In the database in the *_options table there is a value for “home” and “siteurl” which contain URL’s that WordPress relies on to properly function. Otherwise it will keep trying to kick you to the old domain.
