Making wordpress my entire domain

    i have a domain hosted through yahoo small business which i’ve had for years: http://www.coolpillows.com. yahoo offers wordpress, which means, i think, they are offering the ‘wordpress.org’ situation. i can see from my FTP access under the blog directory I’ve created, I have 3 directories: wp-admin, wp-content and wp-includes.

    i’ve decided that i want my entire site to be a wordpress-driven experience, even though i don’t intend it to be regular old blog. i’m thinking of it more as a content management tool, instead of the manual coding i’ve been doing on coolpillows.com for some time.

    if i want my domain to be all wordpress-enabled at coolpillows.com do i just go to general settings and then change the url (which is currently http://www.coolpillows.com/blogsource/) to http://www.coolpillows.com and that’d be that?

    hey I just researched this exact thing so I can convert mine the same way. i am on GoDaddy hosting so I am sure it is a bit different than yahoo but maybe this will get you going in the right direction.

    these are instructions for leaving the wordpress files in the subdirectory, but running them from root

    (so files remain at coolpillows.com/blogsource, but the WP runs from just coolpillows.com, which I find to be the best way to run)

    In revisiting this idea…I’m thinking of something a little different. I would like to have a home page, presented in the WordPress environment, but then have links to blogs and various other content within that home page. The actual home page wouldn’t be presented as a blog explicitly. But linking off that would be a link to a the blog, and lots of other content. I sorta wanna use it like a very simple content mgmt system.

    Or another way to look at it, is it’s like inverting the idea of a blog and the blog’s about page. Where usually, you go to a home page for a blog and it’s the blog and the entires, etc. and then there’s a link to an “About” page for the blog, the blogger, etc. This would sort of be the reverse. The home page would be more like “About” (the site, the blogger, whatever) and then a link to the blog.

    Hope that makes sense. It seems like it should work, assuming you can have a blog nested under another blog.

    I got a bit dizzy, but friends say that is my normal state 🙂

    You can have WordPress and your site start on most any page you want –

    Dashboard >> Settings >> Readings – Front Page Displays a Static Page – Design the Page you want to open with and set it here – you will need to also make a Blank Page and set if for your Posts –
