• Did anybody notice the new search here in the forum?
It’s totally different, and instead of the usual 5-6 results I just got 892 for the keyword I’ve searched for!

And notice the new “Search powered by kick-butt Yahoo! Web Search” tag at the bottom of the results page.

I still believe that this forum sucks. WP home, should use something really better.
New searching isn’t better than before, it returns more results but many of them are duplicates and in random order.

Try thinking before speaking. Specifically, try choosing lighter words. Of course, if you consider “suck” to be light word, then I still believe that you suck.

Got to say I’m not happy with the new search results at all, mainly because they don’t prioritize the more recent stuff, I’ve been looking for a few things and its bringing up 18 month old posts in first spot, please, please go back to the old search facility, sure, it wasn’t perfect but at least the results were fresh and normally relevant.

However that’s being done, it’s a wonderful new feature. I love it!

    Thank you!!!

*sigh* if the WP forums does one thing, no one’s happy, if they do another thing, they’re still not happy, so they bring in something which is happy medium and they’re still not happy. this is free. all of it. be grateful and if you have a BETTER idea, come out with it. Bitching is easy, but constructive feedback will actually show you have something to say

    Jinsan
I’m not bitching and I’m offended by what you’ve written, its fairly simple: I prefer the old search results to the new ones, they provided more contextual results and were more recent and relevant, if you dont like that, bite me, because at the end of the day I can’t for the life of me think as to why the forum gurus changed the old method when it worked so well. The net result in going to be MORE people asking MORE questions that have already been answered because people can’t find the info from the hundreds of results presented under the new search method.

How does the old saying go: “If you’re on a good thing, stick to it”
<strike>Hope thats constructive enough for you, or would you prefer shorter words so you can understand me better?</strike>

I’d note but unlike the other guy I’ve always loved these forums, even if its now really, really hard to find relevant, recent information

Duncan, I believe Jinsan was referring to Sakis. Your criticism was very constructive, Sakis’ was not.

    Sorry Mac

    Always liked these forums

Not a problem. We all make mistakes, especially in text-based conversation.

Long day trying to get a CSS 3 column WP theme to render properly in Internet Explorer… but I’ll leave that for another thread.

First I want to apology for the language I used before,
    Sorry for that!

According to forum, I never liked it, especially the searching. I always used google to search for posts.
IMHO, searching is even worst now, my queries returned wrong results with awfull appearance.

Searches did not include the Codex which has a wealth of information. It does now.

People asked that more than 5 results be returned. They are now.

People asked for paged results. They got them.

Google stuck ads all over the last search results. None there now.

If someone can think of a good method, that satisfies others not just themselves then please – say something. Ways to improve the forums are always welcome* and good suggestions are listened to and tried.

*Each and every request to move to phpbb is and always will be politely but firmly ignored πŸ™‚

    @podz and others.

Context aware search like the old one will always be better than search engine based ones like Yahoo does.

I had Yahoo contextual search on my site. However my related entries plugin (significantly modified from the original to make it more context aware) beats it hands down everytime. Check my individual entries for related posts.
