hmmm i did some googling after posting this question
and some say: it’s pointless to have the meta section – it does nothing for the user
its for the admin of the site??
a design flaw? am i missing something?
It’s not a design flaw! It’s information/links relating to the site itself rather than the topic(s) the site covers. That’s the definition of meta. Information about the data container rather than the data itself.
How can I get rid of the ‘meta’ category in the sidebar?

I have exactly the same question. I’ve never seen a website that the visitors saw the word mETA in the sidebar. When I look at the appearance widgets, there is nothing showing in the sidebar so I don’t see how to remove the META category

To get rid out of this META, you need to either edit the sidebar.php file of theme or from the wordpress admin area remove the widget META. If it is theme based, then you have to edit the sidebar.php file of your theme and remove that META code.
