Can’t get rss feed to work

That’s the error message. I’ve read the codex info but it’s really over my head. I have a custom permalink, but added the generated code to my .htaccess file (directly through the control panel). What is the problem and how do I fix it, please?

I really think and hope that this will be my final problem getting everything set up. I really appreciate the help.
