Display categories in menu without showing “category”

Yes, I’m making a simple top horizontal menu in html for my wp template. I choose which categories I want to display on that menu by simply creating my own horizontal menu.

My question. Right now when I want to display all posts from a category, say it’s called “news” the link is something like http://www.mysite.com/category/news

Is there a trick to display this without the term category in the link? like say: http://www.mysite.com/news
