Path to File Outside WP Root Folder

    I need to change link path in a plugin file that will point to a file that’s in the directory ABOVE the WP root folder. How exactly would that path look?

    I tried using the following, but I’m still getting an error that no such file exists:

    ../filename.ext

    Does the above example indicate the file is located in the directory ABOVE the WordPress root directtory?
