• I’ve released beta 3 of the Popularity Contest plugin:

    http://www.alexking.org/blog/2005/05/27/popularity-contest/

I’m opening a new thread here as the last one has gotten a bit long and unweildy and most of the problems mentioned there have already been fixed.

If you are seeing any problems with this release, please include the following information in your report:

    • Version of WordPress you are using
    • Theme you are using
    • A list of all active plugins you are using

Thanks for the update, the update button works now.

Using version 1.5 with a huge amount of plugins [on display at http://shadows.os42.com/index.php/areas/ and your plugin is working now. It is showing popularity and percentage on each post. The sidebar is also producing a list of the most popular.

    A few issues though.
    1. The Popularity plugin would not work properly until I deactivated the The Referraliser plugin @ http://nfo.zackdesign.biz/archives/plugins/395

    2. I then noticed that when writing a post, the preview option at the bottom of a post now produces this error – You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘)’ at line 3

    3. Consequently, I then tried to deactivate the Popularity plugin but this produced a result of no posts showing in main content. Sidebar and header still working as normal.

Apart from these issues, I really like the plugin. Could you advise though, as to how to apply styling to the produced Poularity % in the posts…

    Hope this all makes sense..

elyonline and shadow – are you using beta 3?

shadow – I can add a class for styling.

I found and fixed the issue where only one post would show after activating the plugin. This could happen if you had a foreach loop for your posts rather than a while loop. I’ve worked around that for the next release (don’t do a foreach through the global $posts in your plugins people).

    Thanks Alex 🙂

Reinstalled beta 3 and have added styling.

    All looks good so far.

    Hi Alex,

Yes I am using beta 3.

    Thnaks

Could my double-loop set up explain why I don’t register hits for home page views?

OK I see why I am getting the 404.

The URL to the updated values is : http://www.domain.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=popularity-contest.php&updated=true

    but it should be: http://www.domain.com/news/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=popularity-contest.php&updated=true

My WP is in a folder called ‘news’

    Thanks

    Arlo – no idea.

elyonline – What is the value for WordPress address in your Options?

Not too sure what you mean Alex. This is the options URL: http://www.domain.com/news/wp-admin/options-general.php

    Update:
Hmmm I have just been checking stats and it looks that the plugin don’t seem to be registering clicks now.

They have stayed the same for 2 days (since I used the new beta 3). I checked AW stats though my hosting and that tells me a different story. Certain posts have had like 30 hits but unregistered in the plugin.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I have just noticed another bug when using the popular posts sidebar. It shows drafts.

I had a couple of posts I decided to take down for a while so I saved them as drafts but they still show up in the sidebar and if you click them you can still read them even if they are in draft mode.

    Thanks

Hi, great plugin. I tried to change my values in the popularity contest options are, but I get a message “No input file specified.” I’m using the latest WordPress and plugin. Dos anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

    thanks.

    Excellent plugin, thanks!

The summary page shows “unranked” for yet-to-be-published posts, and “0%” for as-yet-unpublished drafts. I’d prefer it to not show either, but it’s not a big problem.

I’m on WP 1.5 with popularity contest 1 beta 3.

elyonline: strange that. If I mark a post “draft”, and click on the link in the popularity scores, I get a “Sorry, no posts matched your criteria.”

Hetta: Hmmmm strange if you go to http://www.elyonline.co.uk/ and scroll down the side bar you will see my ‘Most popular post’ and click on ‘The Evoloution Of The Crazy Frog’ that is a draft but shows on sidebar and also links to it.

    Thanks
