I recently changed my hosting provider while keeping the same domain http://www.brandasy.com.

As instructed, I used the export option to generate an XML document and after setting the new wordpress installation on my new hosting provider, I’m trying to import that xml document (5.72mb) but to no avail.

    Here’s the error:
    Import WordPress
Sorry, there has been an error.

The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/vhosts/brandasy.com/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads.

I’ve tried it several times but each time it gives the same error.

    What could be the problem?
The previous wordpress was 2.2 whereas now I have installed 2.9. Could that be the problem?

I’ve even set the permission to wp-content 777.

    Am I doing something wrong?

    Would appreciate your help.

  • Yes, I’d install 2.2 and import, since the tables are very different between 2.2 and 2.9. After importing, upgrade, but do not try to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.9 at once. There are some threads on the forums that suggest a route.
Another problem could be that the file is larger than 3 mb, but there are also threads with suggestions about that.

    Thanks Roy!

It was a pretty exhaustive process but with your help I finally managed to make it work.
