Support » Installing WordPress » How to back up database before upgrading

  • I’ve been referred to the tamba2.org.uk site for instructions for upgrading because I didn’t get good results with the instructions here. I’m on the first part, “Back up your data” and already I don’t understand two things:

    1) “Download ALL your WordPress files into this (Full Backup) folder”. How do I know which are the WordPress files? I have two folders, wp and phpmyadmin. Do I back up both?

    2) Then it refers me to instructions for backing up my database. I don’t know anything about this, so this means nothing to me. I go to the link for backing up the database and the first instruction is:
“From the main login screen, select ‘Databases'”. The main login screen of what? In WordPress there isn’t anything like this. The figure says “Welcome to phyMyAdmin 2.5.3” so I’m guessing that it has something do do with my phpmyadmin folder, but how to I get to this login screen?

The instructions assume that you know so much! If you knew that much, you wouldn’t need the instructions! At least, that’s my feeling.
