In case anyone is wondering about the cryptic post (at this time):
what's the recommended 1.5.1 > 1.5.1.1 upgrade method?
Same as 1.5 -> 1.5.1.
Regards
You might wanna change "In our effort two optimize we" -> "In our effort to optimize we"
So, if I'm reading correctly, since I haven't upgraded to 1.5.1, I must do this first and then do the 1.5.1.1 upgrade next?
Thanks, jim
No, you can upgrade straight from 1.5 to 1.5.1.1 -- I just did.
The new versions of Wordpress are what I could call inclusive releases. That is, they are not incremental updates on previous version, so you could pretty much jump from 1.2.x to 1.5.1.1 just as someone else would jump from 1.5.1 to 1.5.1.1.
Regards
Is there a list of files that were updated in this release so I can just replace them?
Thanks
I'll get shot down for this...... always happens.
If you know what you are doing, this should help:
http://trac.wordpress.org/timeline?changeset=on
If you don't, then please do the upgrade properly as Cypher has indicated above and which is described in detail elsewhere.
And before I get flamed ....
I don't care if people upgrade or not. What I do care about is that it is done properly so that people do not end up mixing code. When that happens, they post here because things have gone bad, and in the end we find out that the upgrade wasn't done properly so we advise them to do it and they bawl us out for just trying to help.
I don't write the code, I don't decide what gets written in or out of the program and I do not write the changelogs or file change lists. Why ? Because like the majority of people who use this forum I've no clue about PHP.
Silvetti - that was not directed at you, and if I knew of a list I would tell you :)
podz are these bug fixes caused by upgrading to 1.5.1 or were/are they present in 1.5? I haven't yet upgraded to 1.5.1, so I'm just weighing the odds on what the best tact is.
Cheers
I constantly see a lot are suspicious or worried even with the RSS issue.
You can upgrade without any problems check out if neccesary the topics about RSS ( use the search option) everything is working very stable if you follow all the instructions with 1.5.1.
Even if there are some minor bugs it still should not withhold anybody from upgrading.
I also already upgraded and continuously follow the forum to stay updated.
As far as I understand there was a serious security issue that is solved far more important then some plugins or a minor RSS problem which is solved already to by some very hard working people behind Wordpress.
It is easy to ask some question but sometimes more difficult to use the option "Search First".
I have seen BUGS and security related issues are treated very serious.
Not only by the makers of Wordpress but also by some very dedicated Plugin writers.
The only thing what I can say with my poor designing is update !
And if you have a serious question it always is treated very serious or even private if neccesary.
Jinsan, 1.5.1 fixed a lot of bugs, but introduced a few too, this new release fixes everything under the sun.
thanks for the reply matt.
Podz, I assume you're specifically referring to this page in answering Silvetti. However, that list seems to seriously overstate what files actually changed from 1.5.1 to 1.5.1.1--somehow I doubt every image file changed to fix two bugs in the RSS and *backs functions.
I'm really unhappy (which is in my mind, and not the responsibility of WP developers ;) with this update not having a more finegrained patch available. Is there a good reason why this cannot be done? Having to manage personal/plugin changes to the main codeline for every small release is very much not a good thing for WP overall.
what do youd efine as fine grained? I thought it was two core bugs with a few others? is this update really going to affect the plugins? if it fixes everything, I would have that was a good thing.
i'll wait and see if there's another update - hopefully this fixes everything but I wait about a week or two before I apply anything.
Has the comment problem been solved? Where a comment is placed when you post sometimes (seemingly at random, but nothing is random now is it).
I could not find a page that explains which changes has been made since 1.5.1. If it's there pointing me in the right direction will be a good answer to. And in that case, I apologize.
Jinsan, I mean if only those two areas are covered by the release we should get a smaller set of files and not have to overwrite essentially the entire installation (not counting configuration or 3rd party files).
Did the thread die? I would really like to know if the comment problem is resolved, or what have changed from 1.5.1 to 1.5.1.1.
What is/was the "comment problem"?
I have never seen this "comment problem" that you speak of.
It's in the list of bugs and it happens to me frequently. When I create a new post, a comment is created containing part of the post. It does not happen on every post write, maybe every third or fourth.
I don't see anything related specifically to comments in the bug fix log for v1.5.1.1: http://mosquito.wordpress.org/changelog_page.php
You might want to upgrade to v1.5.1.1 regardless. At the very least, it is better than v1.5.1.
As for "what [has] changed from 1.5.1 to 1.5.1.1," see: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/34197#post-193610
macmanx, IMO that list is not the real change set--there's just no way all those image files, for example, changed. If this minor update fixes two small problems as stated, then almost certainly there are far fewer files with changes and that's the list kentl and I are looking for.
I see see nothing about image files in any of the two links that I provided. I specifically meant Podz' post here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/34197#post-193610 IOW, this is the changest: http://trac.wordpress.org/timeline?changeset=on
Note that everything after May 9th in that list would have been incorporated into 1.5.1.1.
How should I get in touch with the developers?
I could put in a bit of work to help out reslove the comments issue as I find it extremely annoying.
Either by giving them good data to give them hints in debugging (preferably), or by diving into it myself, solving it and giving them the solution.
@macmanx: Maybe I don't know how to read the list properly, I've not used trac or svn, but if I look at the most recent entry on the trac page in your comment (http://trac.wordpress.org/changeset/2614) I see a long list of files--several dozen--including a bunch of gifs and jpgs.
I just upgraded. Everything seemed to be working perfectly, but then I used Firefox to access my blog. Everything looks great, but I can't log out. In Firefox, when I click log out I end up in the dashboard. When I click log out in the dashboard, I stay in the dashboard. I can close Firefox, open IE and I'm logged out. I can log in and log out without any problems in IE. Then I open Firefox, and I'm still logged in.
Any suggestions on what I should do?
