• Hi

In my quest for THE aggregator I ended up creating a stand-alone blog to act as an aggregator.
    The only plugin is feedWP
    ace.dpwatch.com

I collect feeds from various institutions, no problem at all, the do as told and fit into MY categories.

I tried to syndicate two companies’ feeds (is there a connection?) one was using feedburner the other, I guess too but must check.
Anyway, upon collecting the info, and though each had been assigned to a category, they created countless categories AND polluted my content:
many posts that were not under their category ended up there.
So I would have a British Library feed under British Library- Institutions- Europe and all of a sudden all the BL posts ended up also under THE COMPANY.
So I deleted the subscription altogether but I’d like to be able to, excuse me, not HAVE to use their categories on MY blog.

    What a waste of time!
    Anyone?

  • Substitute:

I would be glad to help you here. Have you made sure that under the Categories and Tags option you have selected “Do not create new categories”? Also what is your site default for categories and tags? Filter or something else?

I feed through feedburner, wordpress, blogspot, and even a couple joomla feeds and don’t have a problem so maybe we can figure out what is specific to your setup that may be causing this.

    Many regards,

    Hi

    Thanks
SO it is true that I had forgotten the “don’t create new categories or tags” at first.
1 syndicated a new feed/2 created a category and tag/ 3 updated the checked feeds.
Problem was it started before I had created the categories or created extra categories.
This is now fixed since I discovered the “don’t create new categories or tags” function 10 days ago.
Now I still have the problem that some posts (I can’t unederstand why) coming from a feed that belongs to a category and has a tag would also end up in “uncategorized”.

This can’t be explained, I’ve checked all my feeds and none include the “uncategorized”…
I’d like to get rid of the “uncategorized” category as there is no such thing on my wesbite, I have more than 62 categories…

    Substitute:

I’d be glad to help you, can you show me a sample from your feed- maybe I can figure something out from that. I apologize for not responding faster, I’ve been busy with work and rewriting a theme.

    Regards,
    kesseret

    Hi
    I still have some issues:

No feed should end up in the “uncategorized” category yet some posts do..why.?

It’s been a few days now (I did upgraded to WP 2.9 then 2.9.1 maybe that’s why) I can’t assign a tag to posts in the categories and tags section: I used to be able to do so…and that’s quite important to me . Any clue?
Could anyone using FeedWP let me know if they encounter the same issues?

@substitute: make sure that the “default” settings does NOT have “uncategorized” checked. It seems that the plugin adds the selection of the “default” settings with each specific feedd settings. For me, this worked, althought I’m still not able to add Tags.

It does NOT have uncategorized selected at all.
