I accidentally deleted all of the ftp files of a site with no backup solution, but the database was not deleted. I saved the database sql file, uploaded a fresh version of wordpress, installed it, dropped the tables and imported the original database tables but when I do that I am left with unaccessible pages; front-end and back-end pages all come up 500 Internal Error, the only page that displays is install.php which shows me:

You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.

I am in a dire situation with this. I dont mind redoing all of the theme stuff but I need to restore all of the posts/pages/etc. How can I resolve this?

  • YOu didn’t really need to do anything with your tables I don’t think

Just upload all the wordpress files again, and edit the wp-config to point to that database

I tried that, it doesn’t work. That would be the same thing as what I did though anyway in the end.

When you look in your server’s error log files, what do you see? That might give you a clue if, for example, there is a directory mismatch or something wacky.

Are you installing the same version of WP you had before?

Oh yeah, and are you uploading all of the themes and plugins you had before as well?

I am uploading a new version of wordpress but originally tried with the same version… and no I am uploading different themes and plugins. I will check the logs though…
