Posting pictures ‘just works’ so it’s pretty hard to diagnose based on this limited information.

Check also your WordPress URL and BLOG URL under Settings in Admin
I appreciate the response, but I don’t know how to make it much more detailed. Last week putting pictures into to a post was cake and now it doesn’t work.
On my site I put a ‘test’ category in the top navbar and put a random picture in the post to test it. It shows up in the dashboard but not on the site.
Weird….

And when a picture in a post does not come up, it shows a red cross in IE; I do not see that.
So, concentrate on the getting rid of the errors and find out if the picture is uploaded. Check: wp-content/uploads/
Are you sure is not a dimension/weight issue?
Did you try a smaller one? Is it .jpg file?
