No update required?

    Every now and then I get a message in my WordPress telling me that I should upgrade – and I always do.

    However, one thing have happened to me every time that I cannot understand. After uploading all the new files (overwriting old ones, and without deleting old files prior to the upload), I get he following message:

    No Upgrade Required

    Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!

    Even tho it says no update required the “a new version of WordPress is available” is gone from the admin-ui.

    What am I doing wrong?

    that is normal
    sometimes the upgrade only replaces a few files – sometimes it replaces files and upgrades the db
    the last few releases didn’t upgrade the db
