I want to programatically hide the welcome panel so when I fire a theme, it will be hidden by default. Any ideas?

I tried removing the wp_welcome_panel action, but no dice!

I looked everywhere... I expected to find similar meta box hooks as with all other dashboard widgets, but it doesn't appear to be the case.... :( I really don't want to have to resort to hiding it with CSS or having to muck with the user's meta data.

What exactly are you trying to do? Under what circumstances would you want to hide the welcome panel?

    Rolling out an MU installation.

Re-skinning WP's admin for specialized CMS.

Wanting to replace it with my own welcome screen with site-specific instructions.

Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful, beautiful panel! But removing it or replacing it is a must for plenty of CMS roll outs.

    Thanks Andrew!

Am I wrong or the posted plugin doesn't fix the submitted issue at all?

I have the exact same need: revamping the welcome screen for my customized and specialized MU installation.

    Is it possible?
