Dynamic sidebar + footer problems (1 post)

    Hello all,

I’m new to the forum, and pretty new to WordPress, too. I’ve been using a WP blog for three months at work and it’s been a relatively trouble-free experience, but I suspect that’s because I’m using a standard theme and posting straight-forward textual content. That said, I’m in the process of setting up a personal blog using a theme that I’ve selected and that I’m tweaking, making changes via CSS and deleting and reordering sidebar widgets, in order to make it look/function like I want it to. I’ve hit a couple of snags along the way but have thus far been able to figure out what was wrong and fix it. There have been a couple of things I’ve not been able to figure out and that I’d like to ask you about. First of all, you can see the blog here.

There’s obviously not much to it at this point, but I’m writing behind the scenes and will start to add content once I’ve gotten the main issues settled.

My questions are about the sidebar, which appears at the bottom of the page, and the footer. First of all, I’d like to align the sidebar widgets with the body content above, but can’t figure out how to do so (I should add that it’s a dynamic sidebar set in a wrapper, if that makes any difference). When I increase the left margin or add some padding via CSS, both columns move equally to the right. How can I make the two columns narrower and align them with the two columns of content above? Also, is there any alternative to a dynamic sidebar and if so, why might I want one over the other?

As for the footer, I think I’ve inadvertently done something that’s added a little white space at the bottom of the page and perhaps also made the nav bar (the slightly darker-colored band that appears at the top of the sidebar) a little thinner. For comparison, here’s a link to the theme demo.

I’d like the nav bar to return to it’s original thickness and have the background color of the sidebar flow all the way to the bottom of the page. How would I do this?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

BTW, if you see anything else that looks weird/wrong, don’t hesitate to point it out. Oh, and I'm not sure what version of WordPress I'm using -- where can I find that info? I just set this up the other day, so it's probably the most recent (2.8.4?).
