I'm a newbe and just got up and running, sort of. When a new user registers the page they get has a huge menu on the right with blogroll? and Meta. I don't know what all this is. There seems to be a lot of stuff there that is unneeded. Site admin seems to be just for this user OK Log in or out is good but what about the rest. Like xhtml, what is that? How do I change this?

Should I ftp it to me front page editor and fix it there? Or is there another way?

Then either choose another theme, edit your theme's sidebar template file to remove the sections that you don't want or try adding 1 or 2 widgets via Admin/Appearance/Widgets. Adding widgets will remove all of the default content in your sidebar.

    Like xhtml, what is that?

Markup language used to create web pages.

Should I ftp it to me front page editor and fix it there?

Not unless you want to risk bringing your entire site down. Do not edit files in Frontpage or in any editor other than a plain text editor (eg NotePad). Alternatively use the online editor in Admin/Appearance/Editor.
