I have a subpage on my site called portfolio with the following permalink:
http://whiteboxerdesign.com/portfolio/
However, for some reason, when I go to that URL, I get a "page not found" message. the WP admin still shows that being the correct permalink, but I get the same error when I click on the "view page" button. But if I change the permalink, the page pulls up. I haven't made any changes to the settings for awhile. Anyone have any idea what could be causing the error?
Try resetting your custom permalinks to the default setting and deleting your WP root .htaccess file. Then set your custom permalink structure back up again.

Got the problem solved. The issue was that I had a physical subfolder on the site called portfolio where I had images stored. For some reason, not sure with the host itself or WordPress, but it was tripping up the permalink to the site.
