It breaks down like this. I am semi-computer literate, know a bit of html, maintain my flash/html website in dreamweaver with no trouble, but i've hit a snag with wordpress.

I need to get it up to my server, though there is already a wordpress directory there. The person who created this directory has long since gone, so I don't know the password/username/nothing. Filezilla denies me the permission to delete the folder.

I'm using a Mac OSX 10.5.7. I need to know, what software i need to be able to get wordpress onto my server (though not replace the current website yet), and how to do it. More importantly, if there is already wordpress up there, then how do i access it when I don't have the password or username. Is there any software i need to retrieve this? Remember i am on a mac.

If anyone can help me do this successfully today, then there is a cool £20 in it for them.

    Cheers

    Chris

If you can access the WordPress database directly you will be able to see the usernames that exist.

With phpmyadmin you can edit the database and change the admin password. Then login.

Use a standard FTP program for your Mac to upload a "new" installation, but if you gain access to the old installation you may be fine.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more details.

    Can't access the database.

Having trouble uploading a new installation.

I have a folder 'wordpress2' that has all the wordpress files in, but i haven't changed the wp-config-sample.php file. Do i just upload the whole folder as it is to the server? If not, what and how do i change anything?

    my website is http://www.notesfromtheunderground.co.uk

would i then go to http://www.notesfromtheunderground.co.uk/wordpress2/wp-login.php

    I've got very confused.

    I appreciate your help.

I understand. Thanks for letting me know. I'm new to this, so i appreciate the advice. I am however a little disappointed that you choose to embrace the abrupt tone that anonymity fosters.

    cheers.

no, i perhaps thought that you meant well. I was clearly mistaken. I am also sorry for not realising that you are such a big deal.

Now let me check. Did you really mean 'best of luck'?

Of course you did. You can't be all bad.

look whats your problem? i told you the rules. ALL you had to was leave your email. Instead you decided you answered like so:

    Ok, BUT ..

Why does anyone have to suggest/tell/ask/whatever adjective you would like to insert in there more than once that you simply follow a rule?

You got a pretty normal reply to someone that acts petulant as far as Im concerned.

FFS, move on, and go spend your 32 bucks getting your blog fixed.
