It turns out -- at least in my case -- that any posts containing the characters "cc " ("cc" followed by a hard space) were inadvertantly attempting to invoke a command that allows for the installation and running of applications on the server, and is used by botherders and spammers to take over and spam blogs.
So, I went back into a post I was trying to post and substituted the two instances of words ending in "cc" -- the abbreviation "FCC" -- and substituted the fully-spelled-out name "Federal Communications Commission", and it saved and posted fine.
