Is 777 safe for wp-content/uploads on my own dedicated server? (4 posts)

I have an install on my dedicated server, and the wp-contents/uploads folder is set to 777 (wp-content is 755), because I am not able to upload images in a WP post when uploads is 755. Someone in another thread told me that 777 for wp-content/uploads is not a worry since I am on my own dedicated server.

Can someone verify this for me?

    Thanks.

That's what my hosting company (A Small Orange) just told me. 577 used to work for me but now it won't (typically). 577 still works if I want to make changes to one template but my other template has to be at 777. Crazy!

    Thanks zellie.

Anyone else on this and wp-content/uploads?

I'd just like to feel completely comfortable on this issue.

You should read Hardening_WordPress about safe file and directory permissions and securing-wordpress.
