Where do I upload the php files? I have multiple websites that all come from one ftp host. Do I upload it into the main host directory or just the website I want it to work with?

WordPress operates on your server, but of course you can install LAMP on your computer and develop it all there and then upload it to your server when you are ready. Is that what you are asking?

jonimueller, thank you for your response...however...Pardon my newbieness...my server? As in a separate piece of computer machinery that houses my stuff (websites if I ever get there) and is connected to the internet 24/7 in my house? LAMP? That's something else I need to research/possibly purchase/learn/go crazy with?

Karalli, you'd normally upload WordPress to a web server owned by your hosting company.

Start here: http://codex.wordpress.org/New_To_WordPress_-_Where_to_Start & follow the links on that page and everything should start to fall into place.

    ps

You can do a local installation onto your own WinPC, Mac or Linux box ('for kicking the tyres' but not for public access) using something like xampp, but it sounds like that isn't what you're after.

Good luck & have fun with WordPress

Thanks numeeja! I did read the "Where to start" but I'm not ready to be "uploading" to a server just yet. I did want to play/learn wordpress first or "kick the tires" so to speak and then go for it.
