I understand the marketig behind claiming that this is a 5-step intall process, but I wonder how many more customers Wordpress would have if they were honest.
Unless you know -exactly- what the developers are talking about, it is at least a 20-step install process, because there are so many instances of repeat behavior, clearing and re-doing.. then going to the boards to ask for help, and then doing searches to find out some of the definitions of the words they are using.
that's a pretty stupid title for your topic
I agree someone without any knowledge won't do it in 5 minutes, but I think it's implied you have, or gain, some knowledge of php/mysql and how the stuff works.
I and many users here can do it in under 5 min. easily - and yes that comes from experience. As for ease of set up it doesn't get much easier compared to other similar apps.
I wonder how many more customers Wordpress would have if they were honest.
That's stupid, also - no one is being dishonest

The problem is that they make the assumption that everyone who wants to do an install has all the background knowledge they have. There needs to be some kind of background tutorial for people who are not yet as adept, even if they do have some experience.
If there is such a tutorial, they need to make it public, so wee don't have to go to the forums and interact with arrogant developers who cut themselves off from opportunities by using words like "stupid" to describe other people's suggestions and constructive criticism.
there is nothing constructive about "Bait and Switch" and "dishonest". That is purposeful inflammatory rhetoric, so don't use the constructive criticism cloak.
I'm willing to help and answered your other thread
also, there's this
http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Detailed_Instructions
btw, I'm neither arrogant nor a developer - calling someone out is not arrogance

Ok,
I still think that from my perspective that it is presumptuous of them to call it that..
I thank you for your help even though I am cranky from this experience..
I entered the address manually and it opened up properly in firefox ( other thread).. so I will see what happens from here forward..
If I get some time I will create a more detailed tutorial on installing and include some kind of end-user based glossary..
hows' that.
that would be awesome
as a user here you can also edit the codex and add your glossary
