can one insert the blog into the home page of an html website? not sure how to do it. will the blog show up on website home page or will there be a link to the blog? not sure if this can be done?

you can try to integrate it
http://codex.wordpress.org/Integrating_Wordpress_with_Your_Websiteor you could install wordpress in a folder
/blog
and link to it from root site
